چکیده

This paper presents a competition-based active learning approach that prepares undergraduate students for careers in the drone industry. The (CBL) focuses on preparing three key industry requirements (1) assembly, testing, and validation using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts, (2) simulation of flight missions (3) manual semi-autonomous piloting. CBL curricular modules were developed Interactive-Constructive-Active-Passive (ICAP) framework cognitive engagement. These immersed technical challenges corresponding to essential requirements. was implemented through fourteen (14) workshops culminated final piloting competition at STEM research university United States. Ninety-seven (97) from various backgrounds with little no prior experience building drones participated as part 22 teams total. Multiple assessment methods used evaluate students' progress perceived drone-related skills gained by end workshops. Assessment included data direct formative (weekly or biweekly milestones), summative (drone multiple tests), indirect quantitative (Likert-style feedback survey about student perceptions), qualitative (descriptive comments) tools. Direct assessments indicated most successfully reached milestones workshop sessions practical skills. revealed be valuable their knowledge. Indirect analysis comments an engaging effective method introducing technology.

Active Image-based Modeling with a Toy Drone

Image-based modeling techniques [1], [2], [3] can now generate photo-realistic 3D models from images. But it is up to users to provide high quality images with good coverage and view overlap, which makes the data capturing process tedious and time consuming. We seek to automate data capturing for image-based modeling. The core of our system is an iterative linear method to solve the multi-view ...
